Sansome Wellness Month

May is Wellness Month at Sansome School.  Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a healthy and fulfilling life.

To help our students become more aware of the actions they take throughout the day that impact their wellness, we have organized four weekly, health-based challenges (one for each week of May).  The four areas that our Wellness Month Challenge will focus on are Hydration, Exercise, Mindfulness, and Sleep.

Each Friday in May, a special Wellness message will be included in "Notes from the Office" to notify  families of the upcoming week’s challenge, as well as to provide you with additional information on the impact each challenge’s theme can have on your child’s overall levels of wellness.

For the first week we are asking our students to bring a 500ml reusable water bottle.  We will provide the students with three elastic bands.  Students will attempt to drink 1L of water each school day (making sure to pace their drinking throughout the day).  Each time they finish a bottle of water, they will move one blue elastic above the orange elastic.  Health classes will be dedicated to covering the importance of proper hydration on a daily basis.

We hope that you enjoy the information and challenges we created for your child throughout the month.  More importantly, we hope that these challenges will help our students adopt healthy, active lifestyles throughout their lives.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.  If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Starkell at

Marathon Club

This is our final club and the last opportunity for students to earn athletic points for this year.  Any students in grades 4 or 5 who are interested in RUNNING are welcome to come out to the club.

Marathon club practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays after school, starting May 1st from 4:00 PM - 4:50 PM.

All interested students have been given an information package that includes the practice schedule and permission form.  Permission forms must be filled out and returned to Mrs. Starkell as soon as possible.

Students in Marathon Club will also have a chance to register for the Manitoba Marathon "Super Run" which is a 4km/2.6 mile race that takes place on Sunday, June 19th!

A big thank you to Kirsten, program coordinator from the Manitoba Marathon, who came out to Sansome Friday afternoon and gave us a brief presenation about this worthwhile Manitoban event.  She encouraged everyone that even if you're not a runner, there are many ways you can help and be a part of the Manitoba Marathon.  Sansome students were super excited to hear the the big news about the finish line.....this year as all runners will get to finish their race on the Blue Bomber's field at Investor's Group Stadium.  How cool is that?

We hope to see many students out of this year's Marathon Club starting on Monday, May 1st.

Earth Day at Sansome

April 22nd is Earth Day - a day where we celebrate our love for the earth.

We are going to celebrate Sansome SchoolĂs Earth Day on Thursday April 20th.

Here are some of the activities you can do on that day:

  • Wear blue and green to show off your love for the earth!
  • Plan to wear a recycled item as a piece of clothing! Maybe a bracelet made out of paper bags or a hat made out of recycled paper or boxes! Be creative!
  • Pack yourself a litter-less lunch! Try to have NO garbage in your lunch bag!
  • Save power by keeping your classroom lights out for as much of the day as possible! Use natural sunlight to brighten your day!

Be sure to listen closely for some eco-tips during morning announcements!

Sansome Goes Pink!

We recently held grade group meetings to talk about the impact we all have on each other and the desire each of us has to make the world a better place.  There is a common understanding amongst our students at all grade levels that we should all be accepted for who we are and treated equally now and in the future.

To celebrate our acceptance of each other and our zero tolerance for bullying Sansome will be participating in the second official Pink Day on April 12th.  To find out more about this province wide event please follow the link below:

Students are asked to wear an item of pink to demonstrate their solidarity in ensuring bullying has no place at Sansome and that we encourage kindness above all else.  We have also started a message wall in our main hallway to post and share our ideas about what we hope to see and encourage at our school.

The following video is one that we used to generate discussion and make our own Sansome video about why we should all be kind.

Sansome Parent Council "Dartpocalypse"

Schedule Change
Due to a School Division event conflict, a change in our originally planned "Dartpocalypse" event is required to support our families and Sansome School. We will no longer be offering time slots for Tuesday, April 11th and have arranged for all grades to have a time slot on Thursday, April 13th.

The new schedule is as follows:
Thursday, April 13th

Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2:

5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Grade 3:

6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Grade 4 and Grade 5:

7:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Information about the Event:

As much as parent council would like to take credit for the creative name, Dartpocalypse, we cannot. It is actually the name of the company that we have hired to come to the school. Dartpocalypse provides everything needed for the evening. All you have to do is show up! Here is a link to the site so you can get a better idea of what Dartpocalypse is and what to expect.

Here is a YouTube link to check out as well!

Orders can still be placed for anyone who has not done so already!

If you have already placed an order, we will be sending something home with your child to verify your date and time.

Any questions?

We look forward to seeing you at this fun family event!
