Our Rationale:

- The lift of the provincial restriction of having 20 students per classroom from Kindergarten through to grade 3 has allowed for greater flexibility and less dependency on combined classrooms.  Class sizes will be remain as low as possible at these levels.

-        Our largest grouping of students for the upcoming school year will be grade 5’s with a current count of 64.  Planning with combined classrooms for all grade  4 and 5 students ensures class sizes and experiences will remain consistent for every student.

-        Collaborative planning amongst all 4/5 teachers will occur to maximize growth in literacy and numeracy skills as well as a rotating curriculum over the next two years in Social Studies and Science, ensuring students gain a deep understanding of curricular outcomes.

Class List Planning Process

Work on class lists and finalizing staffing has begun and will continue over the next month.  The purpose of the Class Placement Process is to maximize the learning and teaching opportunities for all students and teachers by constructing balanced classes.

The class creation process is a complex one involving the gathering of information about student needs and the making of collaborative decisions from school teams about student placement in classes. Criteria such as student interactions, student assessments, class sizes, students with special needs, and gender ratio are considered very carefully.
Class lists will be shared once completed and will also be included within student report cards in June.
